Reading and writing skills are considered four language skills that are included
in the skill-oriented curriculum that has a combined and product-oriented
nature. The present research, which was carried out in a descriptive-analytical
method, analyzed the content and evaluated the important features of the book "
Teaching ESL/EFL Reading and Writing in English as a second language/foreign
language" by "Ian Stephen Paul Nation" is a professor of applied linguistics and
a prominent writer from New Zealand. The mentioned book is basically an
educational guide for teachers of English as a second language, which is based
on two principles:1.Practical emphasis on about one hundred teaching
techniques. 2. Providing a balanced program to improve students' reading and
writing skills. "P-Nation" includes this practice in a format of four branches,
which are: meaning-oriented input, meaning-oriented output, language-oriented
learning and psychological development. Using simple and fluent language, the
author has designed a balanced language program that covers all four skills of
listening, speaking, reading and writing, each of the four branches should take
approximately the same amount of time. The organization of this book is
basically a reflection of these four branches.
