               abstract

The purpose of investigating the root of myth in Shahnameh stories is to deal
with the role (heroic, legendary, historical) of the character Zal in Ferdowsi's
Shahnameh and to investigate the mythological origin of this character. The
heroes of the national epic come to the field in a continuous and continuous
process, which is the intersection of myth and history. The stories of Zal up to
Rostam's descendants have a Scythian origin and were independent stories that
did not have the slightest connection with the religious and legendary stories of
the eastern kings of Iran and were collected separately. Zal is the most mythical
face of the epic. During the Sasanian period, when they compiled Khodanameh,
some of Sistani's stories were linked with the epic heroic adventures of the
Kiani kings. The findings of the research show that Zal has a legendary origin
and like the legendary kings and heroes of Iran, Simorgh is a mythical bird
mentioned in Zoroastrian books (having magical and ahuraic powers) and finds
meaning next to Zal and Rostam.
