Abstract
this article examines literary criticism at the beginning of Islam. It examines the method
of criticism in the period of the Prophet and the rightly caliphs, which is in the form of
balancing and comparing poets with each other, as well as general and non-
argumentative criticisms similar to the criticism of the Jahili period. It also introduces
the most important poets of this period and mentions evidence of their criticisms and
their views on poetry, including Abu Bakr, Omar, Ali (a.s.), Ibn Abbas, Labid, and
hotayieh, and also reveals the extent of their participation in the criticism movement. He
calls Omar Ibn Khattab the first Nafd of this period, who contributed to the evolution of
criticism, and considers him and other caliphs and Ibn Abbas to be effective in guiding
poetry towards Islamic trends and moral values and opening new horizons against
criticism. In the criticism of poetry and literature of this course, religious and moral
standards are fully valid.
Keywords: literary criticism, the critic, poetry, Islam, praise, epigram.
