Abstract
Speech act theory is one of the linguistic theories that can be used in the
analysis of literary texts. This theory was formed based on Austin's theories
and he called the units of language communication speech act. The theory
was revised and modified by John Searle, and he divided it into five
categories: assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative.
current research, I intend to use this theory to examine one of the letters
(Ahad Namah of Malik Ashtar) and one of It is sermons. The common
aspect that led to the selection of these two texts is the instructional aspect,
in other words, the dominance of motivational action on these texts. In
addition to examining these similarities, due to the difference in the
audience of these two texts, the following article has also examined how to
use direct and indirect actions and also some distinctions within the actions.
Keywords: speech act theory, textual analysis, Sarle, Khutbah Ghara, Malik
Ashtar's covenant .
